01 – Message from the President

Message from the President (Winter 2013)

Steve McCarty
Osaka, Japan

After a hiatus of a few years, our periodical publication is back, with artistic editing thanks to Dr. David Sidwell!

This publication site expands our main site http://waoe.org with a  periodical, a planned journal, blogs, and other communications. Online Education Insights was formerly the WAOE Electronic Bulletin (WEB) from 1999. See waoe.org/archives.html for links to past issues along with historical information and useful current sites for members and officers.

In 2011 we decided to change from an NPO into an international NGO, and our most recent Board of Directors’ Meeting in late 2012 discussed future projects and technologies to use. The videoconference recording of the meeting is also available at the Archives site linked above.

We currently have over 300 members, and we are growing. As always, we have officers from various regions of the world, but in August and September of 2012 we found many new officers including editors and writers for our publications. We are planning to launch the International Journal of Online Education in the near future for research findings, reviews, proposals for the field, and more.

What kind of organization we can be is actually wide open at this time, so we can rethink assumptions and ask what we wish to do and why. At the same time we have a history that has informed us and a culture, which has been colorful, multicultural, and not geographically based. You are most welcome, with that in mind, to suggest new directions. What would you like us to do for you? What would you like to do and share with us?

Enjoy this issue and consider participating more actively in our WAOE organization. We are on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/waoepage if you like, and Twitter @waoe12, while you can contact Dr. Ramesh Sharma about membership at ramesh.waoe@gmail.com or myself about overall matters at waoe@mail.goo.ne.jp.
